[ARCHIVED] Point Bridge to Close Friday Morning

The City of Grand Forks, in cooperation with the City of East Grand Forks, will close the Point Bridge on Minnesota Avenue on Friday, April 8, 2011 as floodwaters continue to rise.

Grand Forks, ND – The City of Grand Forks, in cooperation with the City of East Grand Forks, will close the Point Bridge on Minnesota Avenue on Friday, April 8, 2011 as floodwaters continue to rise.

The bridge will be closed to traffic by 10 a.m. Additional closures may become
necessary as the river continues to rise.

The National Weather Service projects the Red River in Grand Forks may reach a leve
of approximately 51 feet by April 12 or 13, which would make the approach to the bridge
impassable.

The Red River at East Grand Forks was at 38.9 feet as of 11:45 am Thursday morning. The National Weather Service currently projects a crest of between 50-52 feet sometime next week.
