The Louis Murray Bridge, which connects the Point with the City's north end, will close at 10:30 a.m. today, April 12th.
When bridge access is closed, Point residents will have access to the north end and Grand Forks, North Dakota through a southern detour. The detour extends past Bygland Road to US Highway 2 via County Road 72 and State Highway 220. The City will also work with State and County officials to install directional signs and traffic control as needed.
Other notices related to the Murray Bridge closure
Due to the bridge closers Cities Area Transit will be modifying East Grand Forks bus routes. When the Louis Murray Bridge closes the south end of East Grand Forks will be served on a call in basis. Call (701)746-2600 to set up a ride from the south end of East Grand Forks to get to Grand Forks and the north end of East Grand Forks. A bus will stay in East Grand Forks to continue bus routes in the area north of the Red Lake River. A separate bus will be dedicated to connecting the two downtowns via the Kennedy Bridge. East Grand Forks has also closed the City's Green Site, or drop-off recycling and yard waste center effective immediately. The Green Site will be closed until further notice. Recycling can be dropped off at the Public Works Department located at 1001 2nd St. NE, East Grand Forks, MN 56721.
The Red River at East Grand Forks was at 47.82 feet as of 8:30 am this morning. The National Weather Service currently projects a crest of 52 feet.
