As of Wednesday afternoon, the City’s Census 2010 response rate is at 63 percent, besting the national average of 52 percent.
Continued response to the Census will ensure an accurate count for the City. This translates into state and federal funding to the City that averages $1000 per resident per year.
At the state level, Minnesota is one of a handful of states that is in danger of losing a Congressional seat in the US House of Representatives. Therefore, every resident counts now more than ever. The Census form is simple and quick to complete with just 10 questions. Residents should complete the questionnaire based on the address at which they spend the majority of their time during the year. In other words, students and “snow birds” who spend most of their time in East Grand Forks-Grand Forks should fill out the forms that are mailed to their local addresses.
