Use my library card

How to Renew
If your account is current and active, you can renew your books and audiobooks to keep them longer unless the item is on hold for someone else.*
Online:
- Login to your library card account on our catalog ⇗.
- Your username is the number on your library card.
- If you have forgotten your password you can reset it online or contact us by phone or email.
- If your card is inactive or expired or you have trouble logging in, contact us by phone.
- Select the checkbox next to the items you'd like to renew.
- Next to the dropdown "Renew Selected Titles" click the OK button.
By Phone/Email:
Call 218-773-9121 or email us with your library card number and which items you'd like to renew.
In-Person:
Stop by the circulation desk to renew your items.
*If you have an Interlibrary Loan, please contact us directly by phone or email to renew your items.
Learn how to change your library card account password:
- Login to to your library account in the catalog. ⇗ with your library card number number as your username. If you’ve forgotten your password, contact the library and we can reset it for you.
- Once you’ve logged in, you’ll be taken to your account summary you can see what you have currently checked out what you have already are hold and what is available for pickup.
- Search for materials in the catalog for the book you’re looking.
- Once you’ve found the title that you want, go to the right side and click place hold.
- Next, choose how you would like to be contacted (email, phone call, or text message)
- Click submit. At first, a message will say that the hold was not placed because the library already has a copy available.
- Click submit one more time to complete the hold. Now you should have green text telling you that your hold was successfully placed.
- Click continue to complete.
Place Multiple Items on Hold
Learn how to quickly place multiple items on hold from the Library's Catalog ⇗ using the Basket feature:
- Login and search for and item as you would for placing a regular hold
- Once you find the item you want, click "Add to Basket" on the right hand side of the title. You will see that the basket icon in the top right corner of the screen has updated to "1".
- Repeat to add more items you'd like to hold into your basket.
- When you are done, click the dropdown menu next to your basket icon and select "Place Holds" and click "Go."
- Select the way you'd like to be notified that your holds are ready, then click Submit.
- At first, a message will say that the holds were not placed because the library already has a copy available.
- Click submit one more time to complete the hold. Now you should have green text telling you that your hold was successfully placed.
- Click continue to complete.
Use Lists and History
Looking for a way to keep track of what you've read or want to read? Use these features in your library card account!
History in the Catalog
To turn the History feature on, you need to log in to your library account in our catalog ⇗ using your library card number and password. (Don’t remember your password? Give us a call and we can reset it in a jiffy!)
- Click on My Account in the upper right hand corner, then click on Account Preferences.
- In Account Preferences, click on Search and History Preferences.
- Click on the checkbox next to Keep history of checked out items? and all the items you check out after that will be kept in your account!
Now you can see your list under Items Checked Out and Check Out History tabs.
Lists in the Catalog
If you are browsing the library catalog and see a book that you want to read but are already in the middle of five, you can add it to a list. You can create a list from My Lists or directly from the catalog.
- When you’re logged in, you will get a button next to the title of a book that says Add to my list.
- From there you can create a new list or add it to one you’ve already created.
You can also create custom lists in your account to organize books, such as "Want to Read", "Recommended Books", "Book Club", "Series to Read", or even make lists for subjects you are interested in. Get creative!
Libby Account History
- In Libby, a smart tag is a special kind of tag that can automatically keep track of certain titles for you, such as books you've sampled or borrowed.
- E-books and e-audiobooks you've checked out through Libby are automatically added to your Timeline ⇗ tag.

Tags
- You can use tags to make book lists in Libby! You can create as many tags as you'd like and tag titles from the library.
- Tagging a title with "Notify Me" smart tag doesn't guarantee that the library will acquire it, but Libby will share your interests with the library and notify you if it arrives.

How to send e-books to your tablet or e-reader:
If you are unable to download the Libby App on your tablet or e-reader, there are a few ways your can access your e-books.
Read online via the web:
- Visit libbyapp.com ⇗ to read e-books in your web browser.
Send to a Kindle:
- In your Libby app or at libbyapp.com ⇗, tap Shelf.
- Tap Loans at the top of the screen.
- Select the book you want to read, then tap Read With....
- Tap Kindle.
- You'll be taken to Amazon's website. If prompted, sign into your Amazon account.
- Verify the "Deliver to:" device and tap Get Library Book to finish getting the e-book.

Other Devices:
- On your computer, go to libbyapp.com ⇗ to borrow an e-book that supports EPUB or PDF format.
- Tap Loans at the top of the screen.
- Select the book you want to read, then tap Read With....
- Select Other Options, then EPUB or PDF. This will download a file that can be opened in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) ⇗.
- Open the downloaded file in Adobe Digital Editions (ADE), connect and authorize your e-reader, then drag the e-book from ADE onto your device.

How to recommend e-material:
Discover titles that aren't in our library's collection in Libby. Use this guide to learn how to find and tag these titles in the app so you can get notified if they're available in the future.
- In the app, tap Search
in the footer, then search for a specific title, author, or series.
- If you see the title you're interested in, and it has a Notify Me button
, skip to step 5.
If not, move to step 3. - Tap the Filters icon
- Near the bottom of the panel, select deep search. Tap Deep Search
Titles not offered by your library are now added to your search results. - Find the title you are looking for and tap Notify Me
.
The first time you do this, you'll be walked through a quick tutorial to set up a Notify Me smart tag (or prompted to use an existing one). In the tutorial, select Manage Notifications, then select a notification option for Notify Me:Title.
If our library purchases a title you've added to your Notify Me smart tag, you'll be alerted and given the option to borrow or place the title on hold.
Patrons will be responsible for any loss or damage beyond normal wear that occurs to any library materials listed on accounts for which they are responsible, including any dependent accounts.
- Long-overdue materials become LOST after 180 days. At this time, a patron will be liable for the replacement of said materials.
- Borrowing privileges will be suspended once the estimated value of fines and lost or damaged materials exceeds $20.00.
Compensation for lost or damaged materials:
- Patrons may choose to pay the total replacement value of the lost or damaged materials as assessed by the Acquisitions Librarian or the Library Director.
-OR- - Patrons may purchase a compensatory number of materials from the Library’s Materials Wishlist.
- You may purchase Wishlist items from any retailer.
- The purchased item doesn't need to be the same as the lost/damaged item. For example, if you lost 6 books, you can purchase any 6 books from the wishlist as replacements.
- Items must be NEW and in the specified binding (hardcover, etc).
- Items can be brought or shipped to the library with your name and account/barcode number noted so the charge can be cleared from your account.
